Earlier this month I took advantage of Disneyland’s free birthday promotion as part of their 2009 “Celebrate Today!” campaign. It was my “Dad’s Day Out” alone at Disneyland. It had been years since I’ve spent a day at the park by myself, and I was really looking forward to riding some attractions I hadn’t ridden in ages, seeing the “new” Tom Sawyer’s Island for the first time, and generally doing what I wanted when I wanted.
Rope Drop – something I haven’t seen in a long time.
I’m still thrilled with how well the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage turned out!
“A sea serpent? Uh, captain, we shouldn’t enter this into the log, should we?”
August of 2009 will go down in the record books as one of the coolest Augusts on record. This was taken at approximately 10:30 – thick clouds stayed overhead most of the month.
Off to Tom Sawyer’s Island. They remodeled the Island with a Pirates of the Caribbean overlay summer of 2007, and this was my first time seeing the changes in person.
One of the caves was rechristened Dead Man’s Grotto, and is complete with all sorts of new special effects. A lot of money went into this and it was very impressive.
Kids can turn a ship’s steering wheel to raise the sunken treasure.
Yum! Lunch at Redd Rocket’s Pizza Port! I’ve always liked the picture window view of Tomorrowland.
20 years old and still looking great!
Julie asked that I ride Small World for Katie. This isn’t new news, but there are Disney characters spaced throughout the ride now. This cause a lot of ruffled feathers among members of the church of Disney. Really though, it’s no big deal. The ride experience isn’t degraded much at all. In fact, the cleaned up attraction looks great!
Free admission and a button to keep!
Take your pictures now, or download one of a bazillion that are on fan websites, blogs, and Smugmug pages. All of this will be changing soon!
