Julie hasn’t seen snow since she was a child, and really wanted to see some of the white stuff this season. She planned for us to go to Lake Arrowhead, but we wound up in Big Bear instead. Great weather plus an amazing amount of fresh, powdery snow made this a trip we won’t forget!
We woke up nice and early to a cold morning, clear sky, and a welcoming moon.
Chains were required in the upper elevations yesterday, but not today. The roads were wet and cold, but thankfully not too icy.
Snowplows were out to keep things nice and clear.
The snow threatened the roads, but it sure was beautiful.
We made it! Just by chance we found a great snow play area at Boulder Bay Park.
Katie didn’t know what to make of the snow!
There was about 6-12 inches of fresh powder all over the place. Our feet were sinking in to the laces of our boots.
Part of the lake had frozen over.
Katie wanted to get real close to the edge of the lake. Fearless, this one is!
Lots and lots of fresh powder!
We absolutely love this picture!
Looking back at the park from the far end.
Katie agreed to try some snow.
Off to Big Bear Village. They plowed the parking lot and piled the snow into one corner. I couldn’t resist. :)
Our little snow bunny all bundled up.
Lots of snow all over the village. Sure was pretty!
Many of the sidewalks weren’t cleared, but enough were to make getting around easy…if you were careful.
Stagecoach tours were available, but a bit expensive for us.
This beautiful pine tree was outside of a shop just waiting to be photographed.
We found Calvary Chapel Big Bear. :)
I just realized…this is the first “white Christmas” I’ve ever seen.
This will give you an idea of how the roads were in town.
Julie last saw snow as a kid when she stayed at the Grey Squirrel Resort. I was so much fun to see it again.
Julie has video of her playing basketball here when she was about 8 years old!
The grey squirrel was mostly covered with snow.
We got a sled in town, so we returned to the park to try it out! Julie tried to pull me, but wasn’t very successful.
I was able to pull Katie all over, much to her liking.
Katie loved it when I pulled her in the sled. There was so much snow and so few people that I was able to pull her quite a distance, and pretty fast…much to her liking.
One thing Katie learned…it’s not good to rock the sled back and forth while being pulled by daddy. Take a look at the video below and watch it to the very end. Katie’s not hurt, but she got right up and all she could say was, “Cold cold cold cold cold!” We brushed the snow off and she was asking for more rides in no time!
Happy New Year, everyone!
